COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Immigration and Emigration has apprehended ten Bangladeshi nationals who were residing illegally in Sri Lanka with the intention of fleeing to Europe. The arrests were made in the Adiambalama area in Katunayake.

The individuals, all males aged between 20 and 30, had initially traveled from Bangladesh to India before arriving at Sri Lanka's Bandaranaike International Airport in February on tourist visas.

However, by the time of their arrest, their visas had expired, rendering their stay unlawful.

The authorities have taken steps to detain the group at the Welisara Detention Center until arrangements are made for their deportation back to Bangladesh.
