COLOMBO (News 1st) - Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya says that urgent investigations will be conducted into the collection of money in schools for various reasons.

She made this statement while participating in the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education held in Parliament.

The Prime Minister outlined plans for upcoming education reforms, emphasizing that they will focus on five key pillars: introducing a new syllabus, developing human resources, improving infrastructure, educating the public about new reforms, and implementing assessment and evaluation measures.

Sub-committees will also be established to oversee these actions.

Dr. Amarasuriya also highlighted the government's commitment to physically inspecting each school, developing necessary infrastructure, and addressing disparities between schools to effectively implement the new reforms.

Additionally, the Prime Minister noted that steps have been taken regarding suspended construction projects, and plans are in place to identify and quickly renovate unsafe areas in schools.

Discussions at the Consultative Committee also covered measures to address academic staff shortages, balance teacher transfers, fill principal vacancies, resolve issues in provincial and national schools, and tackle challenges in education administration.
