Sri Lanka Dismisses 17 Police Officers for Drug Use

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police have dismissed 17 officers for using illegal drugs, over the past four months.

This action is part of a stringent crackdown on drug use within the police force, as confirmed by Police Spokesperson Senior Superintendent of Police Buddhika Manatunga.

SSP Manatunga stated that the Intelligence Units and Special Investigations Unit have compiled a list of officers suspected of drug use. These officers were subjected to medical tests, and those confirmed to have used drugs were dismissed from service.

The police are conducting ongoing investigations into several other officers facing similar charges, with further actions to be taken based on their medical test results.
