COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Department of Census and Statistics has reported a sharp decline in Sri Lanka's birth rate over the past 11 years.
According to the Director General, Anoja Seneviratne, there were 352,450 births in 2013, but this number has now fallen to just 28,091 as of last year.
Medical experts have highlighted that the annual birth rate has decreased by approximately 100,000 people.
Dr. Deepal Perera, an expert in the field, emphasized the need for a social discourse to address this issue.
