COLOMBO (News 1st); Polonnaruwa Member of Parliament Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne has been appointed as the new Speaker of Parliament today, succeeding Asoka Ranwala, who resigned from the position.
The appointment took place at the beginning of the Parliamentary session.
Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya proposed Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne’s name, which was seconded by Minister Bimal Ratnayake, the Leader of the House.
