COLOMBO (News 1st): Observations regarding the special audit report on the process of introducing electronic passports has been handed to the Ministry in-charge.
Auditor General W.M.C. Wickramarathna stated that the recommendations of the Auditor General's Department, based on these observations, will be included and presented to Parliament.
The audit examined irregularities and corrupt practices related to the process of introducing electronic passports.
This process led to a shortage of passports in the country, causing long daily queues of people seeking to obtain their travel documents.
The investigation also focused on whether the relevant process was carried out in accordance with proper procurement procedures.
