COLOMBO (News 1st) - Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has emphasized that Sri Lanka's core issues remain unresolved, even after 76 years of governance.
Speaking at a public meeting in Puthukkudiyiruppu, Dr. Amarasuriya pointed out that despite the end of the war years ago, many citizens continue to struggle with basic problems such as inadequate education and lack of employment opportunities.
"I constantly meet mothers who are unable to properly educate their children. The teachers at the schools their children attend are inadequate. These children are taught with great difficulty, but when they grow up and seek employment, there are no opportunities," she said.
"After 76 years of governance, we still haven’t addressed these fundamental issues," she said. "How can the current leaders, who fail to resolve the basic rights of the people, address the issues of reconciliation or those left by the war?"
Dr. Amarasuriya also criticized certain politicians who, after previously rejecting the people, are now seeking votes, claiming they will work with the compass in Parliament.
She made it clear that her government will not work with such alliances, stating, "We are prepared to engage with all political parties to solve national issues, but only those who win elections after contesting under the compass will hold ministerial positions."
