The Department of Immigration and Emigration says that Sri Lanka is to receive 750,000 passports in the near future.
The department said that 100,000 passports will be received at the end of November and 150,000 passports in December.
The Department stated that 50,000 passports have been received so far as per the agreement made with the foreign agency that was awarded the tender for the purchase of passports.
The department also say, the procurement of another batch of passports had also started.
The Immigration Department currently issues 1600 passports per day.
The department also stated that a programme will be implement to ensure that sufficient ammount of passports are issued.
The department said that steps have been taken to prepare a system to formally reserve a date and time under the online system and that system will be implemented in the near future.
