Health Ministry Reports 23% of Urban Population in Sri Lanka Suffer from Diabetes, with High Rates of Pre-Diabetes

COLOMBO (News 1st):

According to the Ministry of Health, 23% of the urban population of this country suffer from diabetes.

Community medicine specialist Shanti Gunawardena also says that 30 %suffer from pre-diabetes symptoms.

She also saisd that the percentage of diabetic patients in this country has increased to 14 percent.

Dr. Shanti Gunawardena also stated that one person loses a leg every hour in Sri Lanka due to diabetes.
