Navy Helps Rescue Injured Fisherman

The Sri Lanka Navy rendered assistance to bring ashore an injured fisherman, who was aboard a local multi day fishing trawler at sea south-east of Sri Lanka, about 179 nautical miles (331km) off Kirinda.

The local multi-day fishing trawler “Hansana 01” (Reg No. IMUL-A- 1149 MTR) was reported to have left the Kapparathota Fisheries Harbour with 05 fishermen on 15th October 2024 on a fishing voyage. 

Meanwhile, the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DFAR) alerted MRCC Colombo established in the Navy Headquarters that a crew member onboard the fishing trawler was injured, and requested Navy’s assistance to transfer him ashore for treatment.

In response to the alert, the Navy, in coordination with the MRCC Colombo, swiftly made arrangements to bring the injured fisherman closer to the Offshore Patrol Limit of Galle.

Subsequently, a Fast Attack Craft from the Southern Naval Command was promptly deployed to ensure his rapid transfer to land.

The Fast Attack Craft brought him ashore while administering first aid and the Navy subsequently rushed the injured fishermen to the Teaching Hospital of Karapitiya, for medical
