COLOMBO (News 1st); The listing phase of the 2024 Population and Housing Census has been successfully completed.

This phase involved counting census units, which include residences, business establishments, institutions, and housing complexes where people reside.

According to the Department of Census and Statistics, the number of census units in the country has nearly doubled over the past four decades.

The latest census indicates that there are 8,377,895 census units in Sri Lanka, compared to 3,423,486 units recorded in the 1981 census.

The next phase of the census will involve collecting detailed information about individuals and the condition of their housing.

All census officers are legally bound by the Census Ordinance to maintain the confidentiality of the personal information they collect, and every individual is required to provide accurate information.

December 19 has been designated as "Census Day," on which the comprehensive census report will be released.
