Fire on board ship at Colombo Port extinguished

COLOMBO (News 1st): A fire had erupted this morning on a Singaporean ship anchored at the Colombo Port.

Chairman of the ports authority, Keith D. Bernard said that steps were taken to put out the fire immediately.

The ship MSC CAPETOWN III had arrived at the Colombo Port from Singapore last evening.

The fire had erupted while the ship was anchored at the JCT 4 Jetty.

The reason for the fire has not yet been ascertained.

The Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation, Nimal Siripala De Silva has directed the chairman of the ports authority to immediately conduct an investigation into the incident.
