Ranil's Letter to the SLPP: Who Will the SLPP Support?

COLOMBO (News 1st) - President Ranil Wickremesinghe has requested the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna to promptly communicate their decision regarding their support for him in the upcoming presidential election.

This request was conveyed via a letter addressed to SLPP leader Mahinda Rajapaksa.

In the letter, Wickremesinghe expressed his intention to contest the presidential election as an independent candidate, aiming to secure the backing of the majority party.

The SLPP politburo is set to convene tomorrow to deliberate on their choice for a presidential candidate.

A senior spokesperson from the party said that discussions during the meeting will center around selecting their candidate for the upcoming election.

He added that a significant majority of SLPP members have voiced their reluctance to support President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the presidential race.
