Group of doctors protest opposite Karapitiya Teaching Hospital

COLOMBO (News 1st); A group of doctors of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital and area residents launched a protest on Sunday (21) morning, opposite the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.

News 1st correspondent said the protest was held to demand the release of the Specialist Doctor who was arrested and remanded on charges of assaulting two minor staff members.

The doctor was charged with allegedly assaulting the relevant employee after a dispute regarding a strike held on the 16th of January escalated.

The arrested doctor has been remanded until Monday (22).

Police also arrested two hospital workers on Saturday (20) night on suspicion of assaulting the relevant doctor.

They will be produced before the Galle Magistrate on Sunday (21).
