COLOMBO (News 1st); Employees at the Katuwana Industrial Estate in Homagama have been advised by Sri Lanka Police to wear masks following a renewed release of smoke from a warehouse where a chemical fire occurred last August.

On August 17, 2023, the warehouse, storing chemicals including chlorine, was engulfed in flames.

The Central Environment Authority subsequently ordered its closure. However, on the night of January 7, 2024, smoke once again began emanating from the premises.

Police responded promptly, extinguishing the smoke and launching an investigation.

The source of the smoke was identified as a chlorine leak.

The Government Analyst has also initiated an investigation into the incident.

The Homagama Magistrate Court has been informed of the development by Sri Lanka Police.
