COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka Customs says that the amount of rice imported during the time period granted for rice imports has exceeded 167,000 metric tons.
This includes 66,000 metric tons of raw rice and 101,000 metric tons of parboiled rice.
The deadline for rice imports ended at midnight yesterday.
However, two shipments carrying 8,000 metric tons of rice each are currently anchored near the Colombo port.
Customs spokesperson Seewali Arukgoda says that the government is expected to make a decision regarding the next steps concerning these shipments.
