COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police said that sixteen people including women and children were injured when a train bound to Trincomalle derailed in Agbopura on Friday (7).
Police said that a train left Fort, Colombo on Friday (7) morning bound to Trincomalee.
The train was split into two in Gal Oya with one section heading to Batticaloa and the other heading to Trincomalee.
The train bound to Trincomalee consisted of four compartments, and the second compartment had derailed and fallen off the tracks.
Nine women, five men and two children were injured and admitted to the Kanthale Hospital.
Among the injured men were the Railway Guard and his deputy.
The Agbopura Police is conducting an investigation into the incident.
