Probation Centre Warden charged over death of child in Kalmunai, further remanded.

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Warden, who was arrested for the death of a 15-year-old child in a probation centre in Kalmunai, has been remanded until December 15.

This is following the suspect was produced before the Kalmunai Magistrate's Court today.

The Warden was previously remanded until today after being produced before the Acting Magistrate.

Police said that the deceased 15-year-old child was arrested on the November 16 for theft at a Kovil.

After the child was produced before the Kalmunai Magistrate's Court, he was ordered to be detained at the probation centre, which is under the purview of the Department of Probation and Child Care Services.

Police said the child was assaulted by the Warden on November 29.

The following day, the Warden had informed the Police that the child had died, but the post-mortem revealed child had died from blunt force trauma to the chest.

The Warden of the probation centre had later surrended to the Police taking responsibility for the incident.
