COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Keselwatte Police on Tuesday (24) withdrew a B report that it filed with the court regarding a group of lawyers who protested opposite the Hultsdorf Magistrate's Court on the 18th of January 2023.
Lawyers protested on that day against the conduct of the Attorney General's Department and the undue influence on Colombo Additional Magistrate Tharanga' Mahawatte.
Sri Lanka Police filed the B report with the court, and Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis upon considering the report ordered Sri Lanka Police to inquire into the matter, and produce a report.
However, when the complaint was called up on Tuesday (24) the Keselwatte Police requested permission from the court to withdraw the B report without taking further action on the matter.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis granted permission to the request and concluded the matter.
On Monday (23), IGP C. D. Wickremaratne had called for a report from the Senior DIG in charge of the Western Province over the submission by the Keselwatta Police of a B Report to the Court against several lawyers, who protested opposite the Supreme Court premises on the 18th of January against the conduct of the Attorney General.
Police Spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa told News 1st that the Keselwatte Police had produced a B report without the consent of the Inspector General of Police or the Legal Division of the Police Headquarters.
The Police Spokesperson said that the Senior DIG in charge of the Western Province was instructed to inquire into the matter, and produce a report without delay.
