Bystanders wrestle gun away from Monterey Park shooter at second location

Colombo (Sri Lanka) - Two heroic bystanders wrestled a gun away from the shooter who killed 10 and wounded 7 at Chinese New Year celebrations on Saturday night in Monterey Park, California after he went to a second location - a dance studio packed with people - 30 minutes after the massacre, police said.

The gunman escaped but was found dead in a white coloured van shortly afterward by self-inflicted wounds, police said. The suspect was identified as Huu Can Tran, 72.

"The suspect went to the Alhambra location after he conducted the shooting in Monterey Park and he was disarmed by two community members who I consider to be heroes They saved lives. This could have been much worse," said Los Angeles County Sherriff Robert Luna.

The gun seized was a Cobray M11 9mm semi-automatic pistol with a 30-round magazine, which is illegal in California, Sheriff Luna added.
