NEC to meet election monitoring bodies on Jan 11

Colombo (News 1st) - A discussion will be held between the National Election Commission and election monitoring organizations on Wednesday (11).

Executive Director of People's Action for Free & Fair Elections (PAFFREL) Rohana Hettiarachchi said it is the first discussion between the monitoring bodies and the commission after the announcement of the Local Government Election.

The meeting will focus on election laws, how to conduct elections and gazette announcements.

Furthermore, election monitoring organizations have decided to take legal action against attempts to postpone of the local government elections, over the next few days.

Rohana Hettiarachchi said the monitoring organizations are appearing as intermediate petitioners for the petition submitted to the Supreme Court requesting a writ order that all the organizational activities carried out for the conduct of the local government election be invalidated.
