COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the USA has taken the initiative to provide medicine and medical equipment worth Rs. 4,600 million (12 million dollars), the Presidential Media Unit states.
Accordingly, the Sri Lankan Embassy in the United States has worked in collaboration with several renowned American humanitarian organizations to provide medicines.
So far, the Embassy had sent medicines to the Ministry of Health on 03 separate occasions. The last stock of medicines and medical equipment is due to be presented to the Sri Lankan Government on Sunday (02).
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the USA, Mahinda Samarasinghe, said that he will continue to work with humanitarian organizations and agencies to obtain assistance for the vulnerable people in Sri Lanka and expressed his gratitude to Heart to Heart International, Hope Worldwide, and Americares for their generosity at this time.
Heart to Heart International had sent a shipment of medicine worth US$ 9.131 million last July. The value of aid sent by Americares in September was over US$ 773,000, while the value of Hope Worldwide's aid stock due to be sent to Sri Lanka in the first week of October is over US$ 1.74 million.
