Sri Lanka: Cardinal slams President for raid on Galle Face Protest

COLOMBO (News 1st); His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, the head of Sri Lanka's Catholic Church condemned the attack on the peaceful protest site at Galle Face, Colombo.

"We want to completely condemn this high handed action of the President, Ranil Wickremesinhge," said His Eminence adding that the President was aiming the civil society even before 24 hours passed since him being sworn in as the Head of State.

His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith alleged that the President had gone against the democratic right of the people to protest.

He went on to note that trying to dictate terms and trying to force himself (President) on the people with the use of thuggery and oppression is unacceptable.

"We hold the President responsible for any future disaster that might follow as a result of this action," he warned.
