COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Energy previously stated that the closure of the Sapugaskanda oil refinery in January is imminent as the country would run out of crude oil in the recent future.
Meanwhile, the Convener of the United Trade Union Force, Ananda Palitha stated that to import fuel, Sri Lanka is yet to receive 500 million USD from India, which is the only hope for the forex crisis that had erupted in the country.
However, Palitha said that the refinery will have to be closed down if the country only depends on the 500 million dollars.
Pointing out that an oil tanker has not reached the country in a long time, Palitha also inquired as to why the Minister is attempting to purchase crude oil using rupees.
