Widespread concern regarding students infected with COVID-19: Health Ministry

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Health says there is widespread concern regarding the detection of school students who have been infected with COVID-19. The Deputy Director-General of Health Services, Dr. Hemantha Herath said that schools which identified the most infected students have been instructed to take action locally, along with the instructions of the relevant Medical Officers of Health. He said the Epidemiology Unit will analyze the situation regarding such reports of COVID-19 infected students and ensure steps are taken to prevent any COVID clusters. Meanwhile, the Head of the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak, Army Commander General Shavandra Silva speaking to News 1st today (03) stated that He stated that in the context which Sri Lanka has 500- 600 COVID-19 positive cases daily, the people should be urged to be very careful whenever they come out of their houses. The Army Commander emphasized that it is mandatory to wear a face mask and to keep social distancing, in case there is an increase of positive cases, which he stated is not a good sign. Mentioning that the last two weekends saw the people enjoying themselves and traveling, the Army Commander cautioned that the people should act responsibly in this regard.
