COLOMBO (News 1st); A person accused of sexually assaulting a trainee specialist doctor at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital in her official quarters was arrested by the police this morning.
Sri Lanka Police stated that steps will be taken to present the suspect to court after questioning.
The suspect, who allegedly sexually assaulted the trainee specialist doctor in her official quarters on Monday afternoon, had later fled the scene.
On Tuesday afternoon, Sri Lanka Police announced that the suspect had been identified and would be arrested immediately.
Accordingly, the police and the Special Task Force managed to arrest the suspect in the Galnewa area this morning.
The police stated that the suspect is a 34-year-old deserter from the military.
Investigations have revealed that this person had also acted as a monk for some time.
The suspect had been arrested in the Kalutara area for drug trafficking and was in remand custody. He had come to Anuradhapura on the day of the incident after being released on bail.

The police stated that the suspect committed the crime by threatening the doctor with a knife.
The suspect fled the scene with the doctor's mobile phone.
The police were able to locate the suspect through the signals from the stolen mobile phone.
