COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Court of Appeal ordered for notice to be served on the Attorney General and Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda to appear in court on the 29th of October 2021.
Relatives of 4 young men who were abducted in 2008 & 2009 and were never seen again filed a writ application with the Court of Appeal seeking an order to make null the decision taken by Sri Lanka’s Attorney General to drop the charges against Former Navy Commander Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda.
The Attorney General on Wednesday (13) informed the Court of Appeal that the charges against Former Navy Commander Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda will be dropped.
The Attorney General’s Department told the Court of Appeal that the state will not pursue charges against Karannagoda, who was first indicted in 2019.
Admiral of the Fleet Wasanna Karannagoda is the 14th suspect in the case filed by the Attorney General on charges including abduction and enforced disappearance of 11 youth from Colombo, at the Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar.
