COLOMBO (News 1st): It has been three days since the Court ordered an inquest into the death of the person who died at the Matugama Police Station.
The Wife of the deceased, speaking to News 1st, said that the authorities did not carry out the autopsy even today.
" They called me at 8 this morning and told me to come to the mortuary at Nagoda Hospital at 8.45 in the morning. I wasted time near the Mulleriyawa Hospital in Colombo until 12 yesterday. I even rented a three-wheeler, even though I have no money. And today, I am still not sure whether they are going to conduct the autopsy even. When I called, they told me to leave" She said.
The body was brought to the Mulleriywawa Hospital from the Nagoda Hospital in Kalutara this morning, and the wife of the deceased was present at the hospital today.
However, the autopsy was not carried today as well.
" When we went in, all the details were taken from us. A doctor took our information. They tried to see the body without us, but I asked them to show the body to me. And then they showed, but there is nothing to recognize. The body has become rotten. They said that the autopsy will be conducted in three days, on Tuesday. They also said that a full-body CT scan should be conducted. The doctors then told me that he will confirm whether my husband was beaten on Tuesday evening, when the autopsy will be done" The wife of the deceased further spoke.
According to the Police, the deceased person had died of COVID-19. However, then the entire family, including the wife, should be quarantined.
Yet, she has been wandering around for almost 7 days, seeking justice for her husband.
