COLOMBO (News 1st): The Indian company Zydus Cadila has developed a new vaccine in collaboration with the Department of Biotechnology of India, which can be effectively utilized against the Delta variant. The vaccine, ZyCoV-D has been granted the regulatory nod in India, making it the sixth vaccine approved for administration in the country. The vaccine, which uses a section of genetic material from the virus that gives instructions as either DNA or RNA to make the specific protein that the immune system recognizes and responds to, is administered in three-doses via a needle-free application method. The generic drugmaker, listed as Cadila Healthcare Ltd, aims to make 100 million to 120 million doses of ZyCoV-D annually.
