COLOMBO (News1st): Almsgiving programmes were held in the country as today marks a week since the demise of Mr. R. Rajamahendran, the chairman of the Capital Maharaja Group (CMG).
An alms giving programme was held at the Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple on behalf of Mr. R. Rajamahendran.
Executive Group Director of Electronic Media Business of the CMG Nedra Weerasinghe, Executive Group Director of Human Resources Suranga Jayalath, and the Chief Executive Officer of MTV and M Entertainment Attorney at Law Susara Dinal were among those present.
''He mostly believed that he must fulfil the services expected from him by the people,'' Ven. (Dr.) Kirinde Assaji Thero, the Chief Incumbent of the Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple said.
He pointed out that organizing an alms giving programme to invoke blessings on Mr. R. Rajamahendran is something that can be done by everyone who respects humanity.
An almsgiving program was also held at the Agrashawaka Viharaya in Maradana in memory of Mr. R. Rajamahendran.
Executive Group Director S.C Weerasekara and employees of Slon Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. were present at this almsgiving.
''The Maha Bodhi Temple, the Maha Bodhi Society and the Slon company organized an alms giving programme this afternoon to invoke blessings on Mr. Rajamahendran,'' Ven. Ambulugala Sumangala Thero, the chief incumbent of the Maligakanda Agrashawaka Viharaya said.
Ven. Pallegama Vijitha Thero, the Chief Incumbent of the Rajagaha Nuwara Temple in India also attended the programme.
''Regardless of the religion that he practiced, people of all faiths prayed for his afterlife to be blessed. He paid attention to all religions,'' Ven. Vijitha Thero said.
