Venerable Baddegama Samitha Thero passes away

COLOMBO (News 1st); Former Member of Parliament and Former Member of the Southern Provincial Council Venerable Baddegama Samitha Thero passed away Sunday morning (30).

The late Thero was being treated at a private hospital in Matara.

He was 68 years old at the time of his passing and was recently hospitalized with a coronavirus infection.

Minister (Dr.) Ramesh Pathirana said the Thero had returned to his temple following treatment and was once against hospitalized after suffering a lung infection, and thereafter he had passed away.

The late Venerable Baddegama Samitha Thero entered politics as an active member of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party and was elected to parliament for the first time through the Podujana Eksath Peramuna.

Ven. Baddegama Samitha Thero, a prominent figure in the country's politics, also contested the last general election representing the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.
