NO Travel restrictions during weekend; public urged to stay home

Colombo (News 1st); There will be NO travel restrictions during the weekend & the public is urged to avoid gatherings and assist to prevent the spread of COVID-19, said Army Commander General Shavendra Silva at a special media briefing on Friday (23).

"We request the people NOT to travel to areas where crowds gather and avoid contracting the virus," he said adding in the event one has contracted COVID-19 unknowingly, one needs to ensure one does not become a carrier of the virus. The Army Commander went on to note that in the event a considerable number of cases are reported from a particular area, that area will be isolated. "There is no need to impose legal restrictions on the movement among districts because the people are already aware of how to prevent the spread of the virus. So I hope the people will do the needful," stressed the Head of the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO).
