Colombo (News 1st); Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika Sri Ragala on Tuesday (30) ordered to acquit and release Former Attorney General & Former Chief Justice, Mohan Peiris and two others from the charges mentioned in the case filed by the bribery commission.
The Bribery Commission had filed the case against Former Attorney General & Former Chief Justice, Mohan Peiris, Former Deputy Solicitor General, and Present Supreme Court Judge A. H. M. D. Nawaz, and Former Energy Secretary M.M.C. Ferdinando. The trio was acquitted and released as the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption had decided to withdraw the charge-sheet filed against them. The Bribery Commission had filed the case against Former Attorney General & Former Chief Justice, Mohan Peiris, Former Deputy Solicitor General and Present Supreme Court Judge A. H. M. D. Nawaz, and Former Energy Secretary M.M.C. Ferdinando. The case was filed on charges of preparing an erroneous Attorney General's Report to avoid taking legal action against irregularities committed in the purchase of lands for LECO while Mohan Peiris was the Attorney General. The CIABOC charge noted that at the time A. H. M. D. Nawaz was a Deputy Solicitor General and M.M.C. Ferdinando was the Former Energy Secretary.
