Colombo (News 1st); 11 people died as a result of motor traffic accidents in the past 24 hours, said Sri Lanka's Police Spokesperson.
08 of these deaths were caused by motor accidents on Saturday (27), while the three other deaths were the result of motor accident that took place earlier in the week, said DIG Ajith Rohana. 02 women died after a van carrying 13 people to Anuradhapura on a pilgrimage crashed on to a tree in Kekirawa. 05 of the injured were children, said the Police Spokesperson adding investigations revealed the driver had fallen asleep at the wheel. The general public is requested to take the necessary precautionary action to prevent such accidents, especially during the upcoming festive season.
