Colombo (News 1st); 04 Attorney filed a complaint with the Chief Justice today requesting for an investigation to determine if the final recommendation of the report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry probing incidents of Political Victimization, caused contempt of court. The complaint seeks an inquiry to determine whether the recommendations of the Presidential Commission appointed to look into alleged political victimization between January 8, 2015, and November 19, 2019, have caused a breach of justice and contempt of court, as well as damage to the judiciary and civil liberties. The complaint was filed by Counsel Senaka Perera, Achala Seneviratne, Namal Rajapaksa and T. Jeyaratnarajah. The lawyers who filed the complaint point out that the Extraordinary Gazette Notification No. 2157/44 which appointed by the Presidential Commission on Political Victimization has not made any enforcement with respect to courts or cases in the courts. Counsel in the complaint noted the PCoI recommending for the Supreme Court decision on the appeal filed by Duminda Silva who was sentenced to death, to be reviewed, had caused contempt to the justice and equality served by the court.
