Child beaten to death at witchcraft treatment center as exorcism goes wrong

COLOMBO (News1st):  A 09-year-old girl was allegedly beaten to death with a cane at a witchcraft treatment centre in Delgoda in Kanduboda, Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said. The 09-year-old was taken to a treatment centre situated in the vicinity of her house by her mother as she was said to be possessed by a devil, DIG Ajith Rohana said. "She was subjected to an oil treatment followed by a cane treatment that left her unconscious afterwards", the Police Media Spokesperson said. The girl passed away after she was admitted to the Biyagama hospital. The Meegahawaththa Police initiated an investigation and the woman who treated the girl was arrested by Biyagma Police, the Police Spokesperson said. The post-mortem examination will be conducted today and further investigations are currently underway, DIG Ajith Rohana further said.
