COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Wildlife and Forest Conservation has decided to conduct an island wide survey on the current status of protected flora and fauna in the country, a top ministry official said on Friday (Feb. 19).
The measure will be taken since the data pertaining to the protected flora and fauna in the country, has not been updated in recent times, Bandula Harishchandra, the Secretary to the Ministry of Wildlife and Forest Conservation told News 1st.
The island wide survey will be conducted at the Divisional Secretariat level.
The survey will be conducted with the assistance of Environmentalists, Environmental Activists and the general public, Wildlife Secretary Bandula Harishchandra further noted.
According to Bandula Harishchandra, information has come to light regarding the failure to update the National Red List, which contains information on protected flora and fauna in the country, which is usually updated.
