1,723 COVID-19 positive cases reported from Minuwangoda factory

Colombo (News 1st);  A total of 132 people were confirmed positive to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours (14). Among them, 05 are employees of the Minuwangoda apparel factory and other 127 were locally-identified close contacts of Minuwangoda apparel factory-infected employees, stated the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO). By 6.00 AM on Thursday (15), the total number of COVID-19 positive cases reported from the Minuwangoda garment factory is 1723. Of them, 1,041 are factory employees and the other 682 are locally-identified close contacts of the garment factory-infected employees. On Thursday morning, flight QR 668 from Doha, Qatar arrived with 34 passengers and all of them were sent to the tri forces-managed Quarantine Centres after PCR tests. 52,612 individuals have so far left home after completing the mandatory quarantine period. As of Thursday (15), 9,703 people in 88 tri-service-managed QCs are still in quarantine, stated the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO). On Wednesday (14), 9974 PCR tests were carried out across the country and the total PCR tests conducted so far stand at 348,909.
