COLOMBO (News1st): The impact of the new COVID-19 cluster is high in the country, experts have warned, urging the government to protect those vulnerable to the disease.
"...the coming weeks are going to be very uncertain," Specialist Dr Prof. Krishantha Abeyasinghe, attached to the University of Kelaniya told reporters on Tuesday.
The National Intellectuals Organization has urged the government to protect elderly people and children who are vulnerable to the novel coronavirus.
"The government has a responsibility to do this," Anura Karunathilake, an executive member of the body insisted.
He stressed that the government must take steps to ensure a safe public transport system.
Meanwhile, a former chief epidemiologist has observed that the health ministry is experiencing practical issues amidst the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.
"They do not have a director-general of health services," Dr. Nihal Abeysinghe pointed out citing it as one of the issues.
