Colombo (News 1st); MP and Presidential Counsel - (Dr.) Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe on Thursday (08) said during the 'Yahapalana' administration all anti-corruption related decisions were made by Ex-Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Ex-Minister Sagala Ratnayake.
He made this statement in his evidence to the Presidential Commission of Inquiry probing incidents of Political Victimization.
(Dr.) Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe appeared at the PCoI with regard to a complaint filed with the commission by Piyadasa Kudabalage, the former Director of Sri Lanka Insurance.
Kudabalage filed the complaint with regard to a case that was filed against him based on the recommendations of the Anti Corruption Committee on false charges relating to Criminal Misappropriation of Funds & Money Laundering with the Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar.
(Dr.) Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said though his name was listed as a member of the Anti-Corruption Committee, he never attended any sessions and told the Chairman of the Presidential Commission he was not even aware of the ACC.
(Dr.) Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said within three months of the 'Yahapalana' Government coming into power, there was a rift between him and the Government, and the then government had taken measures not to involve him with any activity.
He said according to the Police Act, the establishment of the Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division is illegal.
He further said that he proposed the then leadership to form a separate unit under the purview of the Criminal Investigation Department to receive the complaints with regards to corruption because the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division has a powerful political background and it gives reason for the collapse in faith in the law and the judiciary.
