COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police have intensified their efforts to arrest the former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Deshabandu Tennakoon, who has gone into hiding following a court order.

SSP Buddhika Manatunga, the Police Spokesperson, stated that several teams have been deployed to locate and apprehend the former IGP, who is not complying with the law.

The former IGP's phone records and possible hideouts have been thoroughly investigated.

Despite his previous high-ranking position, he will be treated like any other suspect, with no special treatment, said SSP Buddhika Manatunga, the Police Spokesperson.

The court has issued an order against him, and anyone found aiding him in evading the law will face legal action under the Penal Code, he added.

Sri Lanka Police also obtained a travel ban to prevent the former IGP from leaving the country. This court order has been handed over to the airport authorities, ensuring that he cannot travel overseas.

The investigations continue with increased efforts to arrest him, and there is no indication that he has fled the country, reaffirmed SSP Buddhika Manatunga, the Police Spokesperson.
