COLOMBO (News1st): Another phase of the Vanithabhimana initiative, to empower women, was held in Anuradhapura on Saturday.
The event was held at the Anuradhapura Central College to recognize the entrepreneurial skills of women who constitute 52 percent of the country's population.
"Do not stop the journey that you have begun. Do not allow anyone to stop it as well," Lakshmi Jayasinghe, a Group Director of the Capital Maharaja Group said.
She insisted that women must transform their thoughts into words and actions as it would define their future.
The programme is being conducted in collaboration with News1st and the NDB Bank.
"...we will remain committed to do everything possible in order to empower them," Sanjeewa Perera, the Senior Vice President of the NDB Bank said.
Damitha Wickramasinghe, the chairman of the Vocational Training Authority, stressed that women have rendered a great service throughout history.
Winners of eight categories were felicitated during the event.
This included Young Leader, Environmental management, Social Worker, Sports, Education, Micro Entrepreneur, Macro Entrepreneur, and Upcoming Entrepreneur.
The winners of the regional events will qualify to compete at the national level competition of the Sri Lanka Vanithabhimana 2020 programme.
The next event under the Sri Lanka Vanithabhimana 2020 programme will be held in the North-Western Province.
