Coimbatore (News 1st); The Coimbatore city police have requested Tamil Nadu director general of police (DGP) J. K. Tripathy to transfer the case of the mysterious death of Sri Lankan underworld don "Angoda Lokka" to the Crime Branch -CID.

The Times of India said the order for transferring the case is likely to be issued on Monday (03) evening.

"This case has an international connection, and the Coimbatore city police cannot go beyond the limit for investigation. So, we requested the DGP to transfer the case to CB-CID to conduct further investigations. We expect that the order is likely to be issued to transfer the case to the agency in the evening, " said a police officer, quoted the TOI.

Indian media reported Maddumage Chandana Lasantha Perera alias Angoda Lokka (35) had been living in a rental house at Green Garden near Cheran Maa Nagar in Coimbatore city in disguise till he died under questionable circumstances on July 3 night.

A woman named Amani Dhanji (27) from Sri Lanka had also stayed with him in Coimbatore since February 2020.

The Times of India said during that time she became pregnant.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that Angoda Lokka murdered Amani 's husband a few years ago and started to lead a life with her.

She visited Coimbatore thrice in the last two years to meet him.

The Times of India said "Angoda Lokka" was supplying protein supplements to many gyms in Coimbatore city.

Madurai-based lawyer T Sivakami Sundari (36) helped Lokka hide at her residence for three months.

Sundari sought help from her friend S Dhiyaneswaran (32) of Tirupur to take a rental home in his name in Coimbatore city for "Angoda Lokka" and Amani Dhanji.

"Angoda Lokka" had hidden his citizenship and obtained an Aadhaar card in the name of Pradeep Singh.

Later he made a change of address to Coimbatore in the Aadhaar card.

In the wake of a spate of killings in the island nation between Lokka and his rival gangs, he went underground in 2017.

The Times of India said. according to Indian Police "Angoda Lokka" came to Coimbatore in 2018 and had been staying in an apartment at Saravanampatti.

In February 2020, he moved to Cheran Maa Nagar area.

Following the death of Lokka, Dhanji approached Sivakami Sundari who visited Coimbatore on July 4 and lodged a complaint with the Peelamedu police.

She stated that Pradeep Singh was her relative and he had died of a cardiac arrest.

The police registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC and the dead body was handed over to lawyer Sivakami. Sivakami took the body to Madurai and cremated it there.

On Sunday, the police arrested her, lawyer Sivakami and Dhiyanesawaran.

Dhanji denied poisoning "Angoda Lokka", police said adding she had said "Angoda Lokka" had developed chest pain and collapsed.

Though a postmortem was done on the body of Lokka, police said the cause of death could be ascertained only after a thorough lab test.

The samples were sent to a regional forensic science laboratory.

Indian media said Dhanji was two months pregnant however, the fetus was aborted when the police were planning to produce her before the magistrate.

She was admitted to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital.
