Medamulana residents hit by water problems

COLOMBO (News1st): Residents of Medamulana in Hambantota have expressed worries due to a lack of access to clean drinking water. These residents have to trek long distances with canisters in search of water. "Most people in this area have bladder stones due to the consumption of this water," a resident complained adding that several residents are undergoing surgeries due to this. Villagers pointed out that they do not have the facility to obtain water from tube wells or wells as it is salty and unfit for consumption. "If we cook rice from the water, the rice turns red," another villager added.
