COLOMBO (News 1st): Attorney General Dappula De Livera directed Acting Inspector General of Police C.D. Wickremeratne to record statements from Ravi Karunanayake, Arjun Aloysius and other suspects with regard to the March 2016 Central Bank Treasury Bond auction.
This was confirmed to News 1st by State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne, the Coordinating Officer to the Attorney General.
State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said the Court of Appeal on the 7th of July 2020 declared there are no objections on proceeding ahead with the investigations into the March 2016 bond auction.
Further, it has been noted there are no objections on recording evidence from the suspects connected to the March 2016 bond auction.
She said the court order noted except for arresting the suspects or placing them in remand custody, the Magistrate has the authority to issue any order that could support the investigators to conduct the investigation.
Accordingly, the Attorney General today directed the Acting IGP to immediately record statements from Ravi Karunanayake, Arjun Aloysius and other suspects with regard to the March 2016 bond auction.
Coordinating Officer to the AG, State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne further said, the Acting IGP was instructed to submit the recorded statements before the 25th of July.
