Colombo (News 1st); Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias 'Karuna Amman' had informed the Criminal Investigations Department via an attorney, he is unable to appear at the CID to provide a statement as he had fallen ill.
Police Spokesperson SSP Jaliya Senaratne speaking to reporters said Karuna Amman had requested to appear at the CID on a separate date after he recovers.
He said 02 teams were dispatched to Ampara and Batticaloa in order to conduct investigations.
On Monday (22) morning, Acting IGP C. D. Wickremeratne ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to immediately investigate a statement made by Karuna Amman recently, with regard to crimes committed by him when in the LTTE.
On Friday, the 19th of June, Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan, the Leader of the Tamil United Freedom Front said he killed 2000 to 3000 Sri Lankan soldiers in one night at Elephant Pass when in the LTTE, as opposed to the number of lives claimed by COVID-19 in Sri Lanka.
He went on to note “Karuna Amman is dangerous than the Corona Virus”.
Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias ‘Karuna Amman’, a one time Deputy Minister in the Mahinda Rajapaksa Government, has come under fire for his recent statement.
