Colombo (News 1st); Deputy Police Chief Ajith Rohana said the last digit of the NIC rule which was introduced, will only come in to effect from Monday the 11th of May 2020.
However, he went on to note this will not apply to employees and workers at industries and businesses in the Western Province as they are expected to return to the Western Province on the 11th adding they must follow the necessary guidelines.
DIG Ajith Rohana said the last digit of the NIC rule will, however, apply to those who remain at home and are unemployed.
He said if a person is to step out during the curfew period, it should only be to purchase food and medicine from the nearest outlet.
DIG Ajith Rohana went on to note Sri Lanka is currently placed in the 160th position compared to other countries with a high number of COVID-19 infections and fatalities.
He went on to note during the 24-hour window which ended at 06 AM on Monday 314 vehicles were seized and 1200 people were arrested for violating the curfew.
The Deputy Police Chief noted 46,400 people were arrested and more than 12,000 vehicles were seized in total from the day the curfew was imposed in Sri Lanka.
