First two wards at Colombo East Base hospital to treat Coronavirus opens

COLOMBO (News 1st):- The first two wards dedicated to treating patients who have contracted Covid-19, at the Colombo East Base Hospital was opened today (March 21).  The event was held under the auspices of Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi and Director General of Health Services, Dr.Anil Jasinghe. The hospital was transformed to treat COVID - 19 patients, following a decision made by the government. Accordingly, this is the second hospital which will be used as a dedicated facility to treat COVID - 19 patients. Director-General of Health Services, Dr. Anil Jasinghe speaking about the facility said;
"100 beds and 30 special beds have been arranged in this hospital for COVID - 19 patients. At the same time, we have acquired a portion of the Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital to treat suspected patients. Within a few days, we will be using the Intensive Care Unit of the KDU Hospital to treat serious cases of COVID - 19, if required. Staffers including specialists at the Colombo General Hospital, Colombo South Teaching Hospital, and the Colombo North Teaching Hospital would be rostered to work at this facility."
