27 Sri Lankan fishermen arrested in Bangladeshi waters

Colombo (News 1st) - 27 Sri Lankan fishermen and 4 fishing vessels have been apprehended by Bangladeshi authorities for illegally entering their territorial waters. The fishermen had set out to sea from Prelaliya, Hikkaduwa and a number of other areas. Relatives of the fishermen have called on the authorities to facilitate their release.  When inquired the fisheries department noted that subject Minister Douglas Davananda is liaising with the Sri Lankan Embassy in Bangladesh to facilitate the release of the fishermen.
