Colombo (News 1st): Today (January 10) is Duruthu full moon Poya Day. The significance of Duruthu Full Moon Poya Day is that it marks Gautama Buddha’s first visit to Sri Lanka. It was on a day like today, nine months after the Enlightenment, that Gautama Buddha, set foot on Sri Lanka for the first time to solve a confrontation between the Yaksha and Naga Tribes. News1st Headoffice Meanwhile, a special pooja organized by News 1st was held at the Shakya Malakaya opposite the Head Office of The Capital Maharaja Organisation Limited this morning. The staff members of News 1st participated in the religious observances. Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic The Annual Aluth Sahal Mangalya or The Annual Harvest Festival took place, today, at the ancient Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. The Annual Harvest Festival took place under the auspices of the Diyawadana Nilame and the Maha Sangha. At the ceremony, the first harvest reaped from the fields of the Nindagam of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is offered to the Sacred Relic. Temple Trees  Meanwhile, the 193rd Ama Dham Sisila Dhamma sermon was held at the Temple Trees today. Venerable Dr Kolonnawe Sri Sumangala Thero delivered the sermon. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa attended the event. Opposition Leader Office A Dhamma sermon under the theme Siri Dhaham Seth will be held on every Poya day at the office of the opposition leader. This was launched under a concept of opposition leader Sajith Premadasa. The first Dhamma Sermon was held today. The sermon was delivered by the Viharadhipathi of the Gangaramaya Viharaya in Hunupitiya, Colombo, Most Venerable Dr Kirinde Assaji Thero.
